Das internationale Tricky Women Festival findet vom 4. bis 8. März 2010 bereits zum siebten Mal in Wien statt. Ab sofort und bis 30. Oktober 2009 können animierte Kurzfilme von Künstlerinnen aus den Jahren 2008 und 2009 eingereicht werden. Folgende Preise werden vergeben:
- Tricky Women Preis der Stadt Wien dotiert mit 4.000,- Euro
- 3-monatiges Arbeitsstipendium des Artist-in-Residence-Programms des quartier21/MQ
- Synchro Film & Video Materialpreis im Wert von € 1.500,-
- Hubert Sielecki Preis dotiert mit € 500,- für einen österreichischen Animationsfilm (ausgenommen Studentinnen des Studios für experimentellen Animationsfilm, Wien)
- Publikumspreis

From 24th to 27th November 2009, in Valenciennes, during the e.magicians 2oo9, the Chained Animation will be held.
What is it about ?!…
The Chained Animation is the collective film of the e.magicians 2oo9. It will be achieved by the student(s) (by team of 3 students at the most) enrolled in a European school, university or educational organisation specialised in animation or computer graphics. You will have to produce a 10-second computer graphic animation from a compulsory original picture, theme or proposal, given by the 2009 guest artist. At the end of the final, all sequences will be edited end-to-end to build a series of animations that will be screened during the closing party of the e.magicians 2oo9, on Friday 27th November 2009.

You will then receive the « creation package » (also available by downloading on the web site www.e-magiciens.net) including the instructions, the theme, the appendices (pictures, sound, concepts) that you will have to use to produce your animation.

… To sign in for the final of the Chained Animation:
Before 30th October 2009, you have to send a supporting letter, a synopsis, a storyboard, an animatics and a short graphic presentation of your 10-second animation project. 12 teams will be chosen and invited during 4 days to take part in the chained animation 2009. They will produce their project at the Phenix theatre in Valenciennes. To help you, partners will provide with hardware (only PC) and software of animation and computer graphics. The guest artist will guide you in the production of this collective work, assisted by a coordinator.

Choose only one category by film
For each of these categories, the works must be produced either exclusively using CG digital creation tools, or by combining real images with CG digital techniques.
• Fictional, animation works
• Documentary work of vizualisation for architecture, design…
• Artistical, experimental, aesthetic works…
All the received works will be screened on PC during the festival at the Phenix theatre. A selection committee, including teachers from different international school, will select a 5-hour programme, named « La compil’ des profs ». It will be screened 3 times during the festival, divided into 3 programmes of 1h20. Besides, a European jury will choose the one-hour « Best of » of the festival. This one and the partners’ favourites will be revealed during the closing party on 27th November 2009.

Das ARS ELECTRONICA Festival 2009 ist wie im Flug vergangen; kein Wunder bei dem vielfältigen, hochwertigen und inspirierenden Programm:
Neben den Umfangreichen Austellungen zum diesjährigen Leitthema Human Nature gab es aus gegebenem Anlass auch einen Rückblick auf die nunmehr 30-jährige Geschichte der ARS Electronica. Bei der Ausstellung CyberArts im OK Centrum, im Brucknerhaus, im Lentos sowie im AEC wurden die Werke der diesjährigen Empfänger von Auszeichnungen, Anerkennungen und der heiß begehrten goldenen Nicas präsentiert. Auch an zahlreichen anderen Locations konnte richtungsweisende Gegenwartskunst bestaunt und erlebt werden. Erwähnenswert an dieser Stelle ist auch die Ausstellung IMPETUS in der Kunstunivsersität, in der Arbeiten des MIT Media Lab gezeigt wurden.
Zahlreiche Symposien zu aktuellen Themen, Vorträge der Preisträger, die Klangwolke , das AEC Fassadenfestival (u.a. mit Fassadenvisualisierungen von DM-Studenten) und Nightlines rundeten das Festivalprogramm ab. Nicht zu vergessen ist dabei das Animationsfestival, bei dem rund 200 von der Jury ausgewählte Animationsarbeiten eine Woche lang zu sehen waren. Das Programm, eingeteilt in 15 Kategorien, reichte dabei von Visual Effects über klassisch-narrative Werke bis hin zu generativer Animation.
Alle, denen der Festivalbesuch nicht möglich war, können sich auf der Festival-Website Video- und Audio-Podcasts der wichtigsten Vorträge und Symposien ansehen. Zu den Highlights zählen – um nur einige wenige zu nennen – die Reden von Hiroshi Ishiguro, Friedrich Kittler, Eduardo Kac, Iriz Pääbo…
